FiveStyle was a XenForo skin for FiveM and other game hubs that wanted the board to look like the server, not like a default forum. It is a discontinued Styles Factory storefront product. This is a historical review of the job it sold — a dark gaming look for a GTA / FiveM community — and a map of what still does that job on XenForo 2.3. It is not a changelog, not a 2026 version number, and not a “still for sale” page. If an old /product/fivestyle-xf or /products/fivestyle.16 URL landed you here, stay. The product is gone. The job is not.
This is not the roleplay / gaming architecture article. That one owns the tree, the whitelist, the server listing, and the fields. It is not the culture around a game server piece. It is not a marketplace ranking of every 2026 style. It is not how to flip light and dark — that article already owns the 2.3 variation switch. Stay here for one question: who was a FiveM skin actually for, and what do you license or build instead?
The job, not the SKU
A theme is HTML templates, CSS/LESS templates, and style properties. Official XenForo inheritance: a new style with no parent inherits the hidden Master style. A child inherits its parent unless you override a property or a template. FiveStyle was one parent in that tree — a vendor look aimed at game communities that live in Discord all week and visit the forum when they need a whitelist, a ban appeal, or a patch note they can quote.
What people meant when they typed “FiveStyle”:
| They said | They actually wanted |
|---|---|
| “Make it look like FiveM” | A dark surface, a loud header, game-adjacent chrome |
| “Our players will take us seriously” | Contrast and a logo, not a default blue bar |
| “We need a gaming theme” | Night-time readability plus a brand colour |
| “Install the RP theme” | A skin. They still had no node tree |
The last row is why so many FiveM boards looked expensive and felt empty. A skin cannot invent rooms. It cannot moderate a whitelist. It cannot query live player counts — the listing article already said XenForo will not do that in stock. If you bought FiveStyle hoping the connect string would appear as a green card, you bought the wrong shelf.
We will not invent a feature list. Old product pages promised a look. They did not replace Forums → Nodes, Communication → Notices, or a portal decision. Treat FiveStyle as a coat of paint for a game hub, then judge paint by whether you can still buy equivalent paint.
Who it was for
FiveStyle made sense for a narrow operator.
A single FiveM (or similar) server with a forum as the long-lived record. Players already had Discord. They needed a public rules page, a whitelist queue, a ban-appeal room, and a place staff could point at when voice chat was a mess. The forum had to look like that city, not like a generic helpdesk. A dark gaming parent plus a logo was a reasonable first purchase.
A small network that wanted one brand across two or three cities. Same palette, same header, different node titles. A child style per city is the wrong tree — that is two merge jobs. One parent look, one child, prefixes for the city name. FiveStyle-as-parent fit that if you were willing to keep the parent untouched and put the logo in the child. Most operators were not willing. They painted the parent. Then the next XenForo point release hurt.
An admin who would rather buy a look than learn style properties. Honest. XenForo’s Appearance → Styles → Style properties are a lot of chips the first Saturday. A packaged gaming style is a shortcut: someone else already set Neutral chips to a night surface and put a thicker header on Header/logo row. That is a legitimate shortcut. It is not architecture.
It was a poor fit for:
- A news / magazine community. Those boards need article forums, featured threads, and a calm reading measure. A FiveM skin on a newsroom is costume. Use the newsroom tools and a quieter parent.
- A support community whose members read tickets in daylight. Dark-on-dark chrome is how you lose the reply box. The ticket article is the queue; the light vs dark article is the design decision.
- Anyone who thought the theme was the whitelist or the stream directory. Those are other products. Historical Vertiforo Twitch-widget URLs already map to the streaming article. Do not steal that job for a skin review.
- Anyone still on a XenForo 1 fork, or a 2.2 parent nobody has rebuilt for 2.3. A discontinued skin on an unmaintained core is a museum.
What “discontinued” means in practice
Styles Factory’s shop is gone. There is no current FiveStyle build to license, no 2026 version number this article will invent, and no support queue that will merge your outdated PAGE_CONTAINER. If a zip is still on a staff laptop from 2021, that zip is a liability:
- It will not know 2.3 style variations (one style, two palettes, footer gadget). The dark-mode switch article is the replacement for “buy Roleplay Dark and Roleplay Light as two SKUs.”
- It will not know 2.3 SVG icon sprites. A 2.2
content: "\f019"rule in its extra.less is how node icons vanish. The nodes article already lost that war. - It will not know that 2.3 removed jQuery. A theme that ships a Select2 tweak or a
$('selector')header script will fail silently after upgrade. The 2.3 upgrade article is the staging checklist. - Customized templates in that parent will go outdated and stay outdated, because nobody is shipping a new parent for you to merge against.
If the board still boots on that parent, treat it as a sunset. Export a screenshot of the public header and the colour chips you actually like. You are about to recreate the look on a maintained tree. You are not about to keep the zip.
What stock XenForo 2.3 already replaces
You do not need a FiveM-branded product to get a dark gaming board. Official machinery, already documented on this site:
- Appearance → Styles → Add style. Parent = Default style (or a maintained 2.3 vendor parent — next section). Title it
Board. Do not touch Master. Do not customize Default if you can help it. - Enable variations on that child. Set the alternate variation’s Color palette to a dark surface and light text. Set the style type to Dark so
xf-intensify/xf-diminishpush the right way. That walkthrough lives in the theme switcher article. Do not re-teach it here. - Header/logo row: upload the city logo, point background and text at
@xf-paletteColor…chips, not a hex you eyedropped from a loading screen. - Basic colors:
textColorand the content background stay on chips. Hard-coded#0b0f14in extra.less is how the dark half “breaks.” - Child
extra.lessfor the one or two rules properties cannot do — a thicker category strip, a node icon via.m-faContent(@fa-var-…). Community practice, not a page in the official styles manual. The upgrade-safe customization article owns the process.
That stack is the honest FiveStyle replacement for operators who only ever wanted night mode and a logo. It survives the next 2.3.x because you never forked PAGE_CONTAINER.
What stock will not give you:
- A three-column card grid of servers. That is a listing job, then maybe an add-on. Not a theme.
- Live “32/64 players” badges. XenForo does not query FiveM. Do not pretend a style can.
- A Twitch “who is live” sidebar. Streaming article.
- A magazine first screen. Portal + newsroom.
If those were the features you remember from a product page, you remember marketing. Rebuild the look in a child. Rebuild the jobs with the articles above.
Current Resource Manager gaming styles
The official pre-built shelf is still Resource Manager → Styles [2.x] (xenforo.com/community/resources/categories/styles-2-x.45/). As of the August 2026 snapshot this series used, three maintained gaming-adjacent parents are the ones people actually shortlist when they say “something like FiveStyle”:
| Style | Vendor | Listed price | Updated (snapshot) | What the job is |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legend | ThemeHouse | $59.50 | 29 Jul 2026 | Gaming framework look; lives next to the UI.X 2 ecosystem |
| Gamez | DohTheme | $30 | 29 Jun 2026 (DohTheme 2.3.11 line) | One-shot gaming skin, same family as Pad |
| Pad | DohTheme | $30 | 29 Jun 2026 | Same line; tighter / “app-like” chrome, still a gaming surface |
Those prices are the RM listing at the snapshot, not a coupon and not a promise they will stay. VAT, payment processor, and “you already own UI.X” are extra. This article will not invent a FiveStyle 2026 price to compare against them.
How to choose among them without a fake ranking:
Framework versus one-shot. ThemeHouse UI.X 2 (“Ultimate Theme Framework”, updated 25 Jun 2026 in the same snapshot) is a parent that wants its add-on and then more ThemeHouse children (Legend is the gaming one). You pay an add-on tax and you inherit a rebuild that can hit too many open files on shared hosts — raise open_files_limit or rebuild from CLI; the customization article owns that incident. DohTheme’s Gamez / Pad are one-shot 2.3.11 skins. Cheaper. Fewer moving parts. You still create your child underneath. You still do not edit the vendor parent.
Variations. Prefer a 2.3 package that documents light/dark variations inside one style. Two complete styles (“Gamez” and “Gamez Dark”) are two outdated-template lists. FiveStyle-era shops sold that pair as if night mode were a second SKU. 2.3 made that product type obsolete.
Update cadence. Legend and the DohTheme 2.3.11 line were touched in mid-2026. That is the number that matters. An unused 2022 grey style (Shades of Grey is the named example on the marketplace snapshot) is not a FiveStyle replacement, even if it is dark.
Add-on tax. If Legend requires the UI.X add-on, budget the add-on, the rebuild, and a child. If Gamez is a zip you import as a parent, budget the child only. Neither budget includes “customize the parent because the logo upload was right there.”
Other 2026 names on that shelf (Velqeris, Marmaris, XenBase as a foundation, Uniform if you accept it may lag 2.3) are real products. They are not FiveM skins. Do not buy a wallpaper style to get a city logo.
A replacement path that does not paint you into a merge
Order of operations if you are leaving FiveStyle, or if you never had it and you want the same job:
- Backup. Database +
data/+internal_data/as the XenForo backup article already specified. You cannot downgrade a style import. - Staging. Do not swap the public Default style on Friday night.
- Import the 2.3 vendor parent (Legend, Gamez, Pad, or stay on Default). It is a new parent. It is not a paste into the old FiveStyle style.
- Appearance → Styles → Add style. Parent = that vendor (or Default). This child is the only place your logo, palette overrides, and extra.less live.
- Enable variations on the child if the parent did not already. Recolour chips. Check both halves. Switcher article.
- Set Appearance options: this child is the Default style for visitors. Point HTML email at a light style — Default is fine — so patch-note mail is not a dark brick. Branding details live in the consistent branding article; do not mix that system into this review.
- Walk the public site as guest, throwaway Registered, and staff. Forum list, thread view, editor, member card, notices.
- Appearance → Outdated templates. Merge. Blue applied, yellow conflict. The customization article is the merge manual.
- Only then turn the old FiveStyle style to not user-selectable and, after a quiet week, remove it.
If you skip the child and customize Legend directly, you have bought a new FiveStyle problem with a 2026 invoice.
FiveM look versus FiveM operations
Operators confuse these every launch week. Separate them on purpose.
| Surface | Theme job | Operations job | Owned by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dark header, city logo, accent colour | Yes | No | This article + branding |
| Rooms for rules, lore, appeals | No | Yes | Nodes, RP architecture |
| Application form | No | Yes | Whitelist |
| Directory of other cities / partners | No | Yes | Server listing |
| Who is live on Twitch | No | Yes | Streaming |
| Patch note this week | No | Yes | Newsroom |
| Season-3 splash with one button | No | Yes | Landing page |
| Discord as the chat layer | No | Yes | Discord |
| Whether anyone comes back after wipe | No | Yes | Culture, hype fades |
FiveStyle only ever sat in the first row. A beautiful first row on an empty table is how FiveM forums die in public.
If the zip is still the public style
Worked afternoon, because this is the ticket.
You run FiveStyle as Default style. It has a customized PAGE_CONTAINER, a novel in extra.less, and a logo. Members say it “looks like us.” You are on 2.2 or an early 2.3 with outdated templates you have been ignoring.
- Screenshot the header, the forum list, and a thread. Save the hex values you actually see — you will translate them into palette chips, not paste them.
- Inventory template customizations: Appearance → Styles → FiveStyle → Templates, filter customized. Every row is a future merge. The ones named
PAGE_CONTAINER,header,node_list*are the expensive ones. - Inventory extra.less. Search for
#. Every hit is a variation bug waiting for 2.3 dark mode. - Stand up staging from last night’s backup.
- Import Default or a 2026 gaming parent as a new style. Create
Boardas its child. Move the logo. Recreate at most ten extra.less rules, all on@xf-tokens. LeavePAGE_CONTAINERvanilla. - Enable variations. Build the dark half from chips. Compare to the screenshot. “Close enough” is success. Pixel-identical is how you fork templates again.
- Point staging Default style at
Board. Three sessions. Then production, same order.
If step 2 shows more than a handful of core templates customized, you are not “switching theme.” You are accepting a redesign. Budget it that way. Do not pretend a one-click import will restore 2021 chrome on 2.3 markup.
Translating a loading-screen look into chips
Operators arrive with a FiveM loading screen, a Discord embed colour, and a PNG. They want the forum to “match.” That is a palette job, not a reason to keep the 2021 zip.
- Eyedrop three colours only: the night surface, the text that sits on it, the accent on the CTA. Discard the fourth neon if you cannot name its job.
- On the child, put the night surface on a Neutral chip and the accent on a Color chip. Point Basic colors text and content background at those chips.
- Header/logo row uses the same chips. If the loading screen is a photograph, do not paste it as a header background. A photo header is a landing page asset, not chrome you will live with on every thread.
- Check the light variation even if you will default to dark. Appeals and billing happen in daylight. The light vs dark article is the design decision; here you only refuse to ship a dark-only fork.
- Stop when a guest knows the city. Pixel-matching the loading screen is how you fork
PAGE_CONTAINERagain.
If the PNG is a crest that disappears at 32 px, it is a footer mark. Put a wordmark in the header. The branding article owns that split.
What “gaming look” actually is in the ACP
People remember FiveStyle as “more gaming.” In stock 2.3 properties that feeling is a short list. You do not need a discontinued parent to do it.
- Header/logo row: taller padding, logo left, a steel accent on the nav link that is here.
- Header and navigation: one background chip, not a gradient you will fight on the other variation.
- Node / forum list: slightly tighter category strips; unread that is obviously unread. Per-node icons only for rooms a new player would mix up — nodes.
- Buttons: the apply / donate CTA uses Steel, not a fifth red.
- Overlay / editor: must remain readable. A gaming header with a broken editor is a pretty outage.
If you cannot get that list from properties, extra.less on the child — tokens, not hex — then stop. A card-grid index is a layout add-on, and it is still not FiveStyle.
Sunset mistakes we see on staging
| Mistake | What happens | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Import Gamez into the old FiveStyle style | Two eras of templates in one ID | New parent, new child |
| Copy 2.2 extra.less wholesale onto a 2.3 child | Missing icons, hex, jQuery leftovers | Recreate ten rules, delete the rest |
| Leave FiveStyle user-selectable “as backup” | Members stuck on the dead parent | Unselectable, then remove |
| Customize Legend to hurry the logo | You bought a new merge queue | Logo on the child only |
| Point HTML email at the dark public style | Patch notes arrive as a brick | Light mail style |
| Skip staging because “it’s only a skin” | Production header is last year’s HTML | Backup, staging, three sessions |
The configuration mistakes habit still applies: if you only test as admin, you ship admin’s board.
Gaming style, Discourse, and the wrong migration
A FiveM community that is tired of PHP sometimes asks whether Discourse will give them the same look. The 2026 matrix already compared widgets to theme components. Discourse will take a colour scheme and a logo. It will not give you the FiveM directory add-on culture, a whitelist node, or a Resource Manager catalogue. The gaming-on-Discourse article is the honest “maybe, if you are a literate RP forum.” It is not a FiveStyle port. Do not migrate to get a darker header.
Decision table
| Situation | Do this |
|---|---|
| You only wanted dark + logo | Child of Default, variations, chips. No paid skin required |
| You want a maintained gaming parent and you will keep a child | Legend or Gamez / Pad from RM. Child underneath. Parent untouched |
| You liked UI.X elsewhere and want the gaming child | Legend on UI.X 2. Budget the add-on and the rebuild |
| You still run FiveStyle as the public style | Sunset path above. Do not wait for a 2026 build that will not ship |
| You thought the theme included listings / whitelist / Twitch | Read those articles. Keep the skin decision separate |
| You run a newsroom or a helpdesk | Do not buy a FiveM skin. Light vs dark first |
There is no “best.” There is a job, a parent you can still update, and a child you will still understand in a year.
What this review will not do
It will not score FiveStyle against Empire or Vertiforo. Those were different jobs (magazine chrome, vertical gaming family) and they belong in their own historical notes. It will not republish an old product screenshot as if it were a 2026 demo. It will not list features we cannot ground. It will not tell you to hunt a nulled zip.
It will not walk extra.less syntax, template modifications, or the merge tool — customize without breaking updates. It will not walk the variation footer gadget — dark mode. It will not pick light versus dark as a design system — what works.
Checklist
- You can say the job in one sentence (“dark FiveM hub with our logo”), not “install FiveStyle”
- You know the product is discontinued; you are not waiting for a patch
- Screenshots and chip notes exist if an old parent is still live
- Replacement parent is Default or a 2026 RM gaming style (Legend / Gamez / Pad), imported as a new parent
- Your customizations will live in a child, not in Master and not in the vendor
- Variations will carry night mode; you will not buy a second style named Dark
- HTML email points at a light style
- Listings, whitelist, streams, newsroom, landing, Discord are other articles — not theme features
- Three sessions on staging before Default style flips
- Old FiveStyle style is unselectable, then removed after a quiet week
Takeaways
- FiveStyle was a FiveM / gaming look, not a community. The storefront is gone. The job is a child style plus a maintained parent.
- Stock XenForo 2.3 already does dark mode (variations) and a logo (Header/logo row). Many operators never needed a paid skin.
- If you want a packaged gaming surface in 2026, the honest shelf is RM Legend, Gamez, or Pad — child underneath, parent untouched.
- A skin does not whitelist players, list servers, or embed who is live. Buy those jobs separately, or do not buy them.
- Keeping the 2021 zip as Default style is how you enter the next upgrade with a
PAGE_CONTAINERyou cannot merge.
Paint the board so a player arriving from Discord knows they are in the right city. Then go build the rooms. The look was never the hard part.
